All You Need Is Love

Ok late night thought process after today's topic:

I support equality.

If the argument is a religious one, I have always believed that God loved everyone. Every single person. I couldn't see how God would be happy with me hating against any human. I have never felt any hostility or disgust or whatever anyone else says when it comes to the lgbt community. I love my friends. I don't care who they love. Love is love as far as I'm concerned.

On the topic of marriage equality. Taking religion out of it, I believe that marriage is a promise between two people. Not everyone that gets married believes in my God, or any god. They believe in each other. If we're supposed to be a free people, free to believe in any religion, then why is this such a huge issue? Because it makes people uncomfortable? I read some quote one time that said something along the lines of "if you don't like gay marriage, don't get gay married." Nobody is trying to force their beliefs or orientations on anyone here, except maybe those fighting so hard against it.

People act like everyone who gets married is a devout Christian that believes the same things as everyone else. So incredibly not true. I really don't think this should be such a religious argument. People are going to commit to each other anyways. This is about rights granted to married couples. When someone dies or gets sick or whatever, why shouldn't the person they love be able to make decisions and receive any help?

I'm not trying to spark any political or religious or just plain angry Internet debate. My brain just can't wrap itself around why people feel the need to hate so forcefully. And against an entire group of people, most of whom they will never meet. Just because Bob and Steve or Susie and Megan want to get married, doesn't mean John and Lisa's marriage means anything less. I just don't get it. That's just me. Maybe I'm over generalizing or leaving something out but this is just how I feel on the topic.

First post is an extremely controversial one. But no one follows the blog except one friend so oh well...I just felt like I needed to put this somewhere.
